Santa's a cyber-shopper

According to this report from ZDnet, "Online holiday spending rose 25 percent to 30 percent from a year ago," with a Goldman Sachs survey saying that online spending in Nov-Dec totalled $30 billion.

By category, the spending was:
  • Clothing: $5.2 billion (up 42% from last year)
  • Computer hardware and peripherals: $4.8b (+126%)
  • Consumer electronics: $4.8b (+109%)
  • Books: $3.0b (+66%)
  • Toys/video games: $2.3b (-9%)
The study also said that online accounted for 27% of total holiday budgets, up from 16% four years. That sounds a little high to me, but I'll wait to see what other studies show.
